Preamble: Our Commitment to Privacy

Protecting your data is our highest priority. The Kennzeichen App was developed following the "Privacy by Design" principle, meaning that privacy protections are integrated into the app's architecture from the start. We guarantee that no personal data is transmitted to third parties without your consent. All core functionalities of the app operate locally on your device. Optional synchronization via iCloud occurs only when iCloud usage is enabled and remains limited to your own devices.

Principle of Local Data Processing and iCloud Synchronization

• Local Storage and Optional iCloud Synchronization: Data such as favorites and seen license plates are primarily stored locally on your device. If iCloud is enabled for your Apple ID, this data is securely synchronized between your devices.
• No Tracking Mechanisms: The app contains no analytics tools or tracking functions.
• No Advertising: No advertising networks are integrated.
• No External Communication: Apart from the optional iCloud synchronization, there is no communication with external servers.
• Full Control: You retain complete control over your data at all times.

2. Types of Processed Data

• Location data (only when actively used and with consent)

3. Purpose of Data Processing

3.1 Location Data

• Calculating distances to displayed license plates
• Displaying the user's current location on the map
• Location data is processed only temporarily during active use and is not stored

3.2 Local Data Storage and iCloud Synchronization

• Storing favorite license plates
• Logging seen license plates
• Saving user settings
• Optional synchronization via iCloud between the user's own devices

4. Legal Basis

• The processing of location data is based on the user's explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
• Local data storage and optional iCloud synchronization occur to fulfill the contractual purpose (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

5. Data Recipients

• No personal data is transmitted to third parties outside of Apple.
• When using iCloud, data is synchronized securely via Apple's infrastructure.
• Apple has no access to the end-to-end encrypted contents of the synchronized data.

6. Storage Duration

• Location data is only processed temporarily during active use.
• Locally stored data and data synchronized via iCloud remain until the app is uninstalled or manually deleted by the user.

7. Rights of the Data Subject

You have the right to:

• Access the processed data

• Delete data
• Restrict processing

10. Offline Functionality

The app is intentionally designed to function offline by default. After the initial download:

• All license plate data is stored locally
• All calculations are performed locally
• All user preferences are stored locally or synchronized exclusively between the user's own devices via iCloud
• Location data is only processed temporarily in the device's working memory

11. Technical Implementation of Privacy Protection

Our privacy-by-design architecture ensures that:

• All databases exist locally on the device
• No network connections are required for core functionalities
• Location data never leaves the device without consent
• User settings are encrypted in local storage
• Synchronized data is encrypted via iCloud
• Data processing is transparent and comprehensible
